Addicted To Bitcoin – By Tim Bennett
It was the shittiest day of my recent life…
I’ve had some crappy days in my life, but this was one of the worst for a long long time!
And if it smells like shit…
Then it’s shit! It can’t be anything else other than shit.
The day started, like any other day in the last 2 months.
I got out of bed on the left-hand side as I always do…
Jane sleeping, the gentle motion of the sheets moving to her breath.
I made coffee as normal…
A little 3-in-1 to give me that little spark that would hopefully turn to a fire of imagination…
I sat in front of my little silver MacBook Air, hoping that it would somehow give me the solution to my problem…
And the same words that I thought every morning for over a month came to my mind…
“What the hell am I going to do and where the hell can I get some cash from?”
Over the last few months, business had been slow and money wasn’t getting tight, it was almost gone and I was worried about our future…
I hadn’t been to the bank for ages, as I didn’t want to actually know how little money I had!
I sat there in silence, looking at an empty computer screen.
I didn’t know it then, but in the next few minutes, my world would come tumbling down and the gates of financial hell were about to be unleashed on me…
Let There Be No Light – Addicted To Bitcoin Began
Jane and I are a normal couple. I am a normal guy. We do normal things.
All my life I have been a dreamer. Dreaming big dreams.
I have always wanted to travel. I have always wanted enough money to feel proud.
I worked hard, too hard.
I am an entrepreneur. I am fortunate enough to be part of the show production world. I am an employee of my own company. I produced laser shows for clients.
My life was going no where. I was stuck.
Go to work. Make money. Pay bills. That seemed to be it…
Round and round we went, day in day out.
I was happy in the knowledge I could pay the bills. Inside I was dying.
I wanted more. I saw others living in big houses. They had nice cars…
Today I am worried. I need to sell the condo. We don’t have any money coming in. The bills are piling up.
And the same words went through my mind again…
“What the hell am I going to do and where the hell can I get some cash from?”
And then there was a heavy knock at the door, that scared the hell out of me!
I jumped in shock.
I cursed at whoever was there.
Who had the audacity to not only disturb my ‘pity me’ moment, but they also woke Jane up as well.
I yanked open the door to give them a piece of my mind…
“Mr Bennett” the little man said.
“I am here to disconnect your electricity…”
“You haven’t paid the bill!”
I tried to reason with him…
But it was no use and 5 minutes later, Jane and I were sat in our top floor unit, with no power!
We hadn’t had our morning coffee together, or our morning shower…
And if there is one thing I hate more than anything…
It’s having a cold shower!
I looked at Jane and felt like a shit…
“I’m sorry honey..”
I had promised her the best life ever and look at us! And it wasn’t even 9am.
What a not-so-great way to start the day…
But it was about to get event more shitty next!
The Computer Says NO!
20 minutes later, I was stood in front of the ATM to get the money for the electricity bill…
But the computer said NO!
I was down to my last $75…
I stood, staring in disbelief, hoping for some miracle that it was wrong.
I cancelled the transaction.
I pushed my card back in to start again, knowing it was not wrong, but somehow hoping it was.
It wasn’t and as I withdrew my last $75, I knew I was in trouble as my world began to turn to hell.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to face Jane.
I had to tell her the news.
I walked as slow as I could back to the condo, knowing that the electrical power was going to be off for a while.
I felt alone and empty.
My eyes able to hold back the tears of humiliation. The last thing I needed right now was to cry in public.
As I struggled to hold it together, I decided to go to the mailbox to check the mail.
Anything to delay having to look Jane in the eyes and tell her.
I thought it couldn’t get any worse.
I opened the little white envelope only to find that the bank had cancelled all my credit cards. They also wanted to know how I was going to pay back the almost $10,000 I owed them.
Chapter 2 – After A Hurricane Comes The Sun
My life started off like any average guy.
I went to a simple school in England. I come from a broken family. Always a big dream in my head, but no way of knowing how to do any of them.
I was a quiet shy boy at school, but smart. Most people didn’t even notice me.
Yet, somehow, I always seemed to get into some kind of trouble.
I often got the blame for things I didn’t do. Too often I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I asked way too many questions. I always wanted to know ‘why’ something was the way it was.
At the same time, I was a day-dreamer.
My mind would wander.
The teachers bored me.
The subjects dull.
My mind distracted often.
My dad was always mad when my school report said “Tim will never amount to anything!”
He would shout at me often. I would ask why he was shouting at me? He should shout at the teachers, they are not good teachers!
I left high school at the age of 16. I became an entrepreneur (a polite way of saying window cleaner). I could have believed that the teachers were right. So far I hadn’t amounted to much.
But I had a passion inside of me.
They had also challenged my pride.
I had to prove them wrong.
Well, they started it by telling me I was nothing!
That shy little window cleaner evolved to become an incredible show producer in Asia.
I produced hundreds of shows all over the world.
Most of the shows were corporate.
You won’t know them.
I produced shows all over the world, until I found my adoptive home in The Philippines.
My home in Manila, became the hub for hundreds of shows all over Asia.
That included The 2.0 Millennium Show in Manila to mark the entrance to the year 2000.
My teachers were wrong!
I had gone from window cleaner to international show and film producer!
Life was awesome!
Until I turned 50. That was a total bummer.
Up until 49 I was fine.
50 though, was somehow so much closer to 70.
When I hit 50 it was as if someone unplugged the electric fan of passion within me.
I started to question what I was doing and started looking for other things to do…
If only I could find that one project that would bring me money but without maximum, exhausting effort…
The Holy Grail of Passive income!
I wanted to enjoy my life for a change.
I was conscious of the fact that I had worked hard all my life. I struggled to get the few luxuries that Jane and I had. Now I wanted to slow down and enjoy life a little.
You know, have enough time to actually smell the roses!
Then I discovered Multi-level-marketing.
I always hated multi-level-marketing…!
All that glitter and razzmatazz, fake testimonials, the rings, the cars. I was not interested.
Despite the dislike for MLM, we joined a very cool concept about travel.
For the next 4 years we were in multi-level-marketing.
We had an incredible life.
We were surrounded by highly motivated go-getters always pumping us up…
Jane and I enjoyed incredible holidays all over Asia in some really great hotels and with amazing friends…
We truly loved what we were doing and the lifestyle we were having…
Jane and I had made it.
We were the ‘perfect couple’.
Travel was amazing.
The friends incredible.
The recognition was like a drug to me.
We went to all the overseas training programs.
They told us ‘if you want to be a top leader, then go to training.’
So we did.
Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong…
Round and round we went in a whirlwind of glitz…
Everywhere we went, the members flocked around us.
Everyone seemed to want ‘one more photo’
It was incredible.
Tiring, but exhilarating at the same time.
I thought we had it made!
The team grew and grew under us.
We were like celebrities.
We knew all the top leaders by name and they knew us too!
Without warning, the company changed the compensation plan.
Then they changed the platform.
Top leaders of the company started to quit.
For the first time, we asked ourselves if there was something wrong.
We started to see a side of the company I did not like.
The company was breaking it’s own terms and conditions.
The company issued a list of countries excluded from our open markets to conduct business.
Yet they had members on stage giving testimonials from these countries.
They instructed the members not to disclose their country.
It was so blatant.
Top leaders were breaking the terms and conditions. They recruited in countries that they were not allowed to recruit in.
Furthermore, It’s prohibited to cross-sponsor products from other companies to members. This also happened.
To make it worse, at all the conferences the leaders spoke about integrity from the stage…
I started to feel fake. I felt something was wrong.
A lot of the leaders lacked integrity.
They re-wrote scripts on stage.
They were not lying, but they were also not telling the truth.
Jane and I started to pull away.
And as we did so, our income started to fall…
Our savings started to run out…
I had to sell one of my other condominium units to cover debt…
The money from the sale of the property was all gone.
The dream had become a nightmare…
And then one day I woke up…
To what was going to be one the shittiest day of my recent life…
I have had some crappy days in my life, but this was one of the worst for a long long time!
And if it smells like shit…
Then it’s shit!
It can’t be anything else other than shit.
But then I remembered one thing from living through a few hurricanes in Manila…
And that is…
After A Hurricane Comes The Sun.
The problem was I was running out of time.
The sun sure didn’t look like it was about to shine anytime soon for me and I was about to be bankrupt.
Chapter 3 – The Skype Call From Heaven
If you told Glen that he was heaven sent, he would be one of the first to smile and tell you that you have the wrong number!
Be that as it may, I will be always grateful to him for making that Skype call to me on 28th Feb 2017.
During the conversation we were having, he said to me…
“You got to take a look at something I am doing…
I’m working in bitcoin!”
Well I didn’t know much about bitcoin and I kinda had that “Yeah right, Silk Road and drug dealers” attitude.
But if there is one thing Glen is good at, it’s sharing success!
And he went on to amaze me with the money he was making in bitcoin.
At the time, bitcoin was about $997 a coin…
I had $75 to my name and that was set aside for the electric bill.
“Mate… do you trust me?” He continued,
“I’m telling you, if you trust me, find some money and get into bitcoin!”
Well, I was over $10,000 in debt.
Would it matter if I added another $100 to my debt?
So I borrowed some money and with Glen’s help bought my first $100 worth of bitcoin.
And then I told Jane, who as always believed in me, but I am sure I could see that “WTF!” look in her eyes!
I really didn’t know what else to do, we were desperate at the time and I really didn’t have much to lose…
It was either stay where I was, or try something new.
Trying new is scary. what if it didn’t work?
But what if it did?
I was in that ‘dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t’ status!
The next day I woke as normal and got out of bed on the left as I always do, made my coffee, opened up my computer and logged into my bitcoin wallet and…
I HAD MADE $2 !
Have you ever started your own business?
You never forget the 1st money you ever made.
Quite often you will take it and frame it and have it hanging on the wall.
I started a club in York, England when I was 28 and I still have the money in the frame from our 1st customer!
If you understand that feeling, then you will also understand the feeling of hope I got that morning.
I realized that while I was asleep, I had made $2.
And if I could make $2, then I could make $20, $200 what if I dare think to $2000 or more!
For the 1st time in many many days, I had a little spark of hope and excitement ignite in me.
I still did not understand bitcoin at all and with all that confusion I could still make money!
Chapter 4 – The Best $2 Of My Life
I have been an entrepreneur all my life.
I have had times of employment (which I hated).
I got those jobs so I could learn something with the goal of having my own business.
So it wasn’t a job.
It was a training program that paid me!
I love the excitement of being in charge of my own life.
I have experienced many amazing moments as a small business owner.
With those highs also comes the lows.
So I know that nothing is permanent, good or bad.
So I knew that the financial crap I was in was also temporary.
When you are up to your neck in crap though, it’s often hard to feel motivated about the good.
And then there are those moments, where you feel the heavens open and the angels blow their trumpets just for you…
And this was one of those moments.
It exited me.
I couldn’t wait to give Glen another Skype call to let him know the news.
And we talked and talked, I was so excited and decided I wanted to know all about bitcoin.
I kept refreshing my screen…
… then $4…
… then $6 and on and on it went.
Sometimes it went down, but what I noticed was that in all the up and down volatility, it was on an upward trend.
And as an entrepreneur, that excited every cell in my body!
The first $2 I made in bitcoin was one of the best moments of my life.
It really gave me hope and when Jane woke and I showed her, we both excitedly started talking about “what if…”
Exciting was not the word to use.
We were ecstatic.
Looking back now, nothing compared to our excitement as bitcoin broke past $19,000 in December of 2017.
We made a plan right there and then.
Tell everyone we know.
Share the strategy.
Build a team the way we did in the travel club, but this time with a product that was in it’s infancy.
To me, bitcoin is like the internet was.
Bitcoin is internet on steroids.
I remember when the internet started and I missed the opportunity to get in at the beginning.
Now we are at the beginning and the opportunity is right in our hands.
Those were incredible moments.
The plan worked…
We told everyone.
Some laughed, most didn’t and the wealth grew.
We were pulling out bitcoin every day into cash.
By the end of December, we had paid off all our debt and were starting to live an amazing lifestyle.
There were 2 things that truly turned our financial life around…
1) sharing the message with those that wanted to listen…
2) Compounding our returns.
Together they were life changing.
And now, I no longer live in that small condo.
We still own it.
But right now we are living in Cha-Am in Thailand.
We have a stunning condo beach resort about 150 meters away from the beach.
It is amazing how 1 year and embracing new technologies can change your life.
This story, would not be an honest recollection, if I did not share with you the whole picture.
Since December 2017, bitcoin has fallen in value.
Right now bitcoin is about $6350 a coin.
If you bought bitcoin towards the end of December, your story would be very different to mine.
You would be seeing a drop in value and you could be cursing the day you bought bitcoin.
So bitcoin, is very volatile and the one thing I had drummed into my head from day 1, was:
“Never put any money into any project that you CANNOT afford to lose!”
And we have always done that from day two.
We also learnt:
“DO NOT sell when the price drops!”
Bitcoin, is the same as any investment, you don’t actually lose any money when the price drops if you don’t sell.
All it means is that the present value has gone down, but you still have what you own.
If you buy a 3 bedroom house at $1,000,000 and the value drops to $500,000, you still have a 3 bedroom house.
Wait for the price to come up and you are good!
So during the days, like now, when the value is down, we wait.
And this is not financial advise, (I am NOT a financial advisor), but a lot of the experts are pointing to a increase towards the end of 2018 in the price of bitcoin…
I don’t know if it will or not, but I know that if it does, I am ready and if it doesn’t then I lose nothing and wait a bit longer.
I am, pretty sure of this:
Cryptocurrency and bitcoin are here to stay and are in their infancy.
There is a lot of confusion about bitcoin.
Also media hysteria is often misleading.
I am sure, in the coming months and years, those in bitcoin now, will blessed in the future.
Chapter 5 – Applied Knowledge Is Power
I am one of those people, who reads the instructions after I have tried it and can’t get it to work.
Next, I ask all my friends if they know how to do it…
Then and only then do I read instructions.
When I start businesses, I don’t spend months writing business plans, I start.
Now I am not recommending it as a practice, but it’s how I do things.
Bitcoin was no different for me.
As soon as we started making money, I started researching with my best friend Google.
We discovered day trading of course, decided to give it a shot.
I remembered the advice from my mentor:
“Never put any money into any project that you CANNOT afford to lose!”
But like a sailor listening to The Sirens Of Titan, I loved the song of “Buy Low, Sell High!”
So I signed up for an account with Binance put $500 on to it and went away into business…
The highs and the lows were thrilling…
I was buying in the morning and sometimes in only 5 or 10 minutes, making 5% on a sale as it rocketed high…
And I kept doing it like an addict day in day out.
2 months later, I looked like I had been on bad cocaine trip.
My eyes were bloodshot from looking at the screen for 20 hours a day, I was completely stressed out…
And the worse thing was Jane and I were spending less time together doing fun things.
Instead I was just addicted to the highs and the lows and waiting for the rush of endorphins every time I won…
And I had just made a great trade on Siacoin and I was about to sleep, but I thought I would do one more trade for the night…
And then Siacoin dropped like a stone and my $500 is still locked in the coin while I wait for it to go up!
But I thought the price would go up fast, so I did it again, and this time Jane did it too…
I put in another $500. Jane put in $200.
We both traded the same coins.
We bought and sold at the same price.
We copied each other.
Then the whole coin market went upside down and dropped like a stone!
In fact we haven’t done a trade since.
The money is in Binance.
We can’t access it.
We are waiting for t
he prices to come back up.
So if I am allowed to give you advice, my advice about day trading is this:
DON’T DO IT!
Day trading, is a bit like riding a motor bike…
It is not IF you will fall off…
But rather WHEN you will fall off! Sure a night follows day…
It’s going to happen!
Chapter 6 – Don’t Buy With Emotion.
It is tempting to consider day trading as an option.
Day trading could be for you if you understand the risks.
You also need weeks or months of training.
If you have tried it and you ended up like I did…
A burnt out, candlestick junkie, who was spending 20 hours praying and hoping that the coin would change direction…
It always seem to go up when I wanted it to go down and go down when I wanted it to go up!
Well, if that resonates with you, then you may want to stop listening to “buy low, sell high” chant.
Consider something else.
I’m not saying that you cannot make money doing it, but there have to be easier ways…
I could get paid a lot more working on an oil rig, but I sure as hell don’t want to do it!
So off I went in search of something better…
It was at this point that I thought, that it might be a good thing to start to educate myself about bitcoin and what it was all about…
I wanted to find out things such as:
Is bitcoin actually legal?
Who created it? Why did they create it?
And how can I use it?
All good questions and my quest for knowledge took me on an amazing journey.
Like most great movies or books, the bitcoin movement started with intrigue.
There appeared to be fraudulent activity by governments, financial institutions and banks.
Chapter 7 – The Worst Financial Crash Since 1930’s
Once upon a time, in USA, the housing prices started to increase.
This was about the beginning of the Millennium.
As prices increased.
Financial institutions gave loans to people who could not pay back.
Also interest rates lowered.
A process known as ‘subprime lending’ was being implemented.
People who have issues paying back, get loans.
Prices went up.
Interest rates went down.
Borrowers remortgaged their homes to release capital.
The bubble burst and by September 2008, housing prices were down 20%.
On top of this about 54% of all loans given did not meet underwriting practices.
One bubble after another burst.
On 15th September 2008, The Lehman Brothers, one of the big banks, crashed with $619 billion in debt.
The International Monetary Fund called it “the worst financial crash since the 1930’s.”
Foreclosures were up.
By September 2009, 14.4% of all US mortgages were either delinquent or in foreclosure.
The banks and financial houses caused the collapse.
Subprime lending, false advertising for unsafe contracts (Predatory Lending) practiced.
They lent to people who were not qualified.
Lowering interest rates created greed.
And the governments stood by and allowed it to happen.
The very financial institutions, with which we trust our money, were the ones who brought it all down.
The creation of bitcoin was to stop this practice.
(To see my references and full story on this, please go to my post here on my website.
The big problem with the financial system, is that we have to be able to trust the banks and financial houses.
And time and time again, we have seen we cannot trust them.
We read of greed and fraud at incredible levels where the volumes of cash get to big for people to resist.
As an example, do you remember when Nick Leeson, gambling away £827m in Baring’s Bank’s name.
Barings Bank collapsed because of it.
In 1999 Leeson left Singapore after serving 4 years in prison.
He later went on to get a share in the £7M profit from the movie about him!
The Bank of England went on to make a report. It said, Barings’s fall ‘came from unauthorized and concealed trading positions’.
It reported ‘serious problems of controls and management failings within the Barings group.’
This is the problem with the banking system.
We have to trust them and we do not!
To operate our finances, we put our hard-earned money into them and trust them to act with decency.
We are at the mercy of these unreliable financial institutions and we DO NOT control our own money.
Personally I do not think that is a good thing… How about you?
Chapter 8 – The Birth of Bitcoin
We are not alone in thinking that this had gone too far.
A group of developers were studying this.
Not only could they see what was going to happen, they came up with an alternative system.
This group or person is Satoshi Nakamoto.
No one actually knows who he is (or who they are), and he (or they) went underground for their own safety.
Honestly, can you blame them…
They had created an online program.
It allowed users to transfer electronic money from one person to another person.
Processing was possible without the need for 3rd party approval.
This came to be bitcoin.
On 31st October 2008, a white paper explained the details.
It became operational on 3rd January 2009.
Since then bitcoin has suffered many set-backs and challenges.
Many from the very financial institutions and governments that caused the financial crash.
The institutions that created the financial crash, are the same ones who don’t want us to have access to bitcoin.
Bitcoin is a system that allows us to operate beyond their control.
Isn’t that self-serving on their part?
Are they not attacking our freedom?
I earlier called bitcoin a movement…
And I began, in my search, to believe that bitcoin is in fact a movement…
A movement to give us FREEDOM.
And anyone who opposes it, is opposing freedom of mankind and you have to ask the question why would anyone do that?
I have concluded, it’s about control.
He who controls the money, controls everything!
Do you feel your finances are out of your control?
When it comes to money, do you understand now why, life seems so damn hard.
My thought is, we are being manipulated and played by the financiers of this world.
They give us enough money to stop us revolting, but not so much so we can enjoy life.
And that is why, after 25 years of running my own business, with success, I was in a position of near bankruptcy.
Is it this very control and manipulations, that are creating your hardship?
So in my personal opinion, even if there was not an opportunity to make money…
If all bitcoin did, was to strip the banks and financial houses of control over money and give it to us, I would want to have some…
Well “yes but what does it mean to me to have bitcoin?” you may ask.
A very good question that would be. Here are a few things I discovered, in my research that you can do with bitcoin:
You can send to anyone anywhere in the world anytime of day as long as they have internet.
Even with a closed bank, you have access to your bitcoin.
You can send it to anyone you want, without 3rd party permission.
I have a thumb-drive in my house (my new bank) which has all my bitcoin on it.
If i want to send it to anyone, I connect it to my computer and send it.
No more standing in-line hoping the bank will approve it.
No more wasting time filling out useless anti-money laundering forms.
And should it not be that way?
It’s your money and you should be able to send it when you want!
It’s fast and cheap to send
Have you seen the bank charges recently?
Do you know that to send money from The USA to The Philippines it has to go through 4 banks.
Each one charges about $10 to $15 and then it takes about 5 to 15 days to transfer.
With bitcoin, it’s almost free (if not free) and takes seconds. When you send $100 via bitcoin, they get $100 of bitcoin.
Can’t get a bank account or credit card?
If you have ID and proof of address, you can open a bitcoin account online.
No need to go to a bank and fill out forms.
No scrutiny about where the money comes from and all the other requirements.
I have bitcoin apps on my phone, which are free to download, free to join and can start using in minutes.
Pay bills from overseas immediately.
I can pay my credit card, phone bills, electricity bills using bitcoin apps from anywhere in the world.
How do I know?
I live in Thailand right now and pay all my bills in The Philippines using bitcoin apps.
This is great for you if you travel overseas, are a overseas worker.
Also if you need to send money anywhere in the world at any time of the day.
We need no 3rd party permission, approval or fees to do so.
Having bitcoin means YOU become your own bank.
If nothing else, this should make you want bitcoin.
Now I am not allowed to tell to buy bitcoin or not.
As I stated earlier, I am not a financial advisor.
You can do what you want with this information.
I am sharing what I discovered in my journey of research and what I found was enough to make me want to get involved.
Oh and by the way, did I mention, that it it possible to increase your wealth portfolio with bitcoin.
There is a risk.
I also discovered along the way, that since bitcoin started in 2009, it has gone up in value every year, except one!
The last thing I wanted to assure myself of was that bitcoin was legal.
I had heard of the FBI closing down Silk Road website and keeping the $48M of bitcoin for auction, so I wanted to make sure.
I discovered that there are about 64 countries where bitcoin is legal.
Included in that list are USA, Australia, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and many more.
The Philippines and Japan is especially bitcoin friendly.
In Switzerland you can even pay your taxes with bitcoin.
I also discovered that:
And many more companies also accept bitcoin.
Once institutional and corporate money moves into bitcoin there is no stopping it.
Oh by the way…
I also accept bitcoin!
Would you like to too?
Chapter 9 – To Dream Is To Believe – To Act Is To Achieve
I am not a research person.
By nature, I do things by intuition.
I work on the principle that we have gut feeling for a reason!
My thought is that it is the universe telling us to trust ourselves.
There was something about bitcoin that excited me.
It’s because bitcoin actually represents freedom to me.
My definition of success has always been freedom.
The freedom to choose what I want to do, when I want to do it, with whom I want to do it with.
Very few people ever achieve freedom under the old financial system.
Yet with bitcoin in a few months, I able to achieve that.
I saw many friends become millionaires in bitcoin too.
And that appealed to me! So I took action.
I wanted freedom!
That was my goal.
Discovering bitcoin was amazing.
Discovering a bitcoin multiplier was incredible!
I was like “a bitcoin what?” when I first heard of it.
There are online programs that can increase the amount of bitcoin you have.
In essence, its a bit like a life insurance company in some respects.
Life insurance companies take your money, they invest it and over 10 to 15 years, they promise to give you a return.
So, in principle, it’s the same, except in bitcoin.
The problem, was that I was skeptical.
I once worked with a life insurance company as a customer.
They promised me at least 4% returns on my investment, (more probable 10% they said) and so I invested.
For the next 10 years every month I gave the about $250.
It was actually an account for my son.
I started it the month after he was born, so it was very personal to me that it worked.
Well after it matured, I had lost money.
I paid in total over $30,000 and I got less than $29,000 back after 10 years of investing.
In the last conversation I had with the insurance company, they were adamant, that I had gotten 4% returns.
How they worked that out, I have no idea, but I was angry.
Angry that they had given me back less than I put in.
I would have been better off putting the money under my bed.
I will never again put my money in one of the legalized stealing machines called life insurance.
I can’t say the name in public.
If you ask me ‘offline’ I will tell you, but it does have the work “life” in it and it is out of the UK.
So I was skeptical about this whole thing.
My entrepreneurial spirit though said to me, “The only way to test something is to test something”
And so I tested it and it worked…
I tested it again and it worked again!
And it kept working and as today I am still getting money from it.
I had many people telling me it was a scam.
‘You will get what you deserve” (I wasn’t sure what that meant), but none of them tried it.
They were too scared and preferred those safe mutual fund companies that take 15 years to work.
So I did what I felt was the right thing to do and I kept testing it and boy did I get what I deserved.
I got enough money to retire! I deserved that!
Chapter 10 – You Get Paid in Direct Proportion To The Help You Give!
Life started to change for us by the middle of July 2017.
Up until then we were getting by.
That first $2 of bitcoin we got multiplied into enough for us to pay our bills and lead a very frugal lifestyle.
A few months earlier, I had our condo up ‘for-sale’.
Now we were in a position, where we had enough.
We were still making choices, “can we go out for dinner or should we pay the phone bill?”
It was still a struggle, but getting better each day.
Excited about the future, despite the struggle, we had stopped crying.
No more feeling desperate and were now in a state of hope.
Two of our close friends approached us.
They were also struggling and saw things were changing for us.
We showed them the system we were using and they also decided to give it a go and things started to change for them too.
We showed more people.
The message spread.
By about the beginning of November 2017, we were working with a team of about 2500 people.
Our life had changed.
I cannot even begin to tell you how I felt.
Jane was happy, friends were happy, I was happy!
We were so far away from that shitty day we had out electricity cut off.
Now we were talking about touring Asia for a year, building our own house and some of the other dreams we had.
It was beautiful and I hope that you will get to enjoy the feeling one day not too far away.
And then January 2018 came and the bottom fell out of bitcoin.
The price fell from under $20,000 a coin to what it is now.
Bitcoin mining became almost standstill.
Some of the companies we were working with closed down.
Others slowed down their payout system to a tiny trickle.
The team fell apart and everyone went their own way and bitcoin slowed down even more!
We had saved enough bitcoin to last a couple of years and even though we had none coming in, we were not worried.
But I knew the lifestyle would not last forever unless I could create more.
I saw a post once that said, “if you have $1M and spend $4000 a month, you will be broke in 20 years!”
So I knew that this could not go on forever.
We needed some kind of income, and I was sure that I didn’t want to go back to the daily grind of running my business.
So early 2018, Jane and I met up with a team of bitcoin leaders.
There were about 60 of us..
We all met in Bangkok for a weekend and gave ourselves a mission to find new programs and new opportunities.
In February, we met a new team that looked very promising.
After much research and talking to a team from Hong Kong we felt we were in good hands.
So we decided to invest a modest amount of cash with them, but as always not enough to worry about if we lost it all.
The next day, we got our first return from them.
Since then, everyday like clockwork, at 9 am we check our online program to see how it has grown.
Since then, we have 4 main programs running.
Each one bringing bitcoin on a daily basis adding to the portfolio.
Life is now beautiful.
There is little in life better than being able to look at the woman you love, with total respect for ourselves.
Jane and I had become cemented together.
We had gone to the lowest point in our life together and risen from the ashes.
We were about to experience euphoria in our life.
Jane had stood beside me every step of the journey.
Never complaining, never judging and always a smile on her face and a hug to make me feel great.
It was that unquestionable love that got us through this.
If anyone deserved what was going to happen next, Jane was the one!
I recognized something special about my life.
Up until this point, I had only ever earned money if I worked for it.
I only got paid after I had a project. It was a reward for hard work.
If you are reading this, I am sure your experience is similar.
You go to work.
You work hard.
On the 15th or the 30th you get paid.
It’s great. It’s normal.
My life had changed though.
I was experiencing something new.
I was waking up, opening my cell, looking at my account and realizing that every single day of my life…
I was getting paid over and over again for work that I only did once.
I can only relate it to someone who made a movie or a song and they get royalties every time someone buys it.
It is an amazing feeling. I hope you get to experience it with me.
Chapter 11 – To Thailand We Go!
As I write this, I am in Cha-Am in Thailand.
By bus, it is about 4 hours south of Bangkok and is a sleepy beach resort.
There are 2 bars and a couple of shops and about 5 kilometersof beach and pine trees.
It’s idyllic and I love staying here.
Jane and I have a 1 bedroom condo with a large balcony.
Complete with a 30 meter pool that almost no one but us uses.
We are 150 meters away from the beach.
We get to spend all day together and it has become a stress free environment for me.
Each morning I do a couple hours work on my computer.
I tend to my bitcoin.
We spend the afternoon, swimming in the pool, or on the beach or we jump on our bikes and have a cycle around.
If you ever come down that way, please visit us.
I am from England. I moved to The Philippines in 1998.
It was for a project that would commemorate The Centennial Celebrations.
I love Asia and fell in love with The Philippines, the people and the prices! It’s a lot cheaper than England.
I set up my business in 2001 and have the most wonderful clients I could ever wish for.
I met Jane on the 25th February 2012, it was love at first sight and we have been happy ever since.
Our dream was to travel and for the last 4 years especially, we have traveled a lot.
I will never forget the 1st time Jane left her own country and we went to Bangkok.
It is a wonderful experience helping someone you love change their life.
Thailand is also an incredible country.
We love it, because it was the first international trip for Jane. It has special memories.
We decided we wanted a complete change.
Blow the cobwebs out of our heads.
Do something fresh, exciting and challenging.
So in Feb 2018 we went to Cambodia for a month.
Siem Reap has always been on my bucket list and 2 weeks there was amazing.
The people are wonderful, the culture amazing.
The historic sites were incredible.
We found ourselves on the back of motorbikes speeding through Kulen Mountain.
We found 1000 year old temples and elephants carved out of stone.
It was a wonderful experience and one I will never forget.
Then on to Sihanoukville.
We lounged on the incredible sand for a week drinking margaritas. Life is good.
Next we found ourselves in Phnom Penh. It’s a laid-back city where you can order Tuk Tuk with a cell phone app for $1 and get 1 liter of beer for $0.50 in happy hour!
The Cambodian people are amazing.
It has been a long time since I was in a restaurant with staff who seem to want to help you and like their job.
After that we went to Bangkok for a conference about bitcoin.
That became a 2 week holiday.
Then we went back home in Manila to recharge.
But have you ever done something and then got that itch to do more…
That’s what happened to us.
We were at home in Manila talking about living in Thailand.
We discussed traveling around and ‘getting out of the comfort zone’ and I said, “Let’s do it!”
And a week or so later we found ourselves on the way to Thailand again and to Cha-Am where we now are.
After the second month, we decided to do a road trip around Thailand.
We went from Cha-Am to Hua Hin, got the ferry to Pattaya and stayed there with friends for a week.
Then up to Bangkok for a few days.
Next we jumped on a Thai train for the first time to go to Nakhon Ratchasima for a couple of weeks.
Then by bus to Khon Kaen, then Udon Thani and finally Nong Khai, before stepping over to Laos and a week in Vientiane.
Then we jumped on the train in Nong Khai.
We enjoyed a sleeper apartment all the way to Bangkok, which took about 11 or 12 hours.
And now we have been ‘home’ in our unit here in Cha-Am for about 5 weeks.
We will go to Manila in October to see Jane’s family and to get some good old Philippine pansit canton!
It was the greatest adventure I have ever had.
We met amazing people along the way. We saw so many temples. Don’t ask me how many we saw, but each one was an amazing display of devotion to their culture and quality of life.
We tried every food possible.
We got lost at 3 o’clock in the morning.
Laid on beaches, climbed mountains, slept on buses, trains. It was an incredible tour of the country.
The Thai’s mesmerized us as they came together as a country. The story of the rescue of the 13 trapped boys in the Tham Luang Caves in Chiang Rai.
I have never seen a whole nation bond as they did and it is a reflection of their love for themselves and their country.
As we traveled, the Thais greeted us with their very welcoming delicate ‘wai.’
This is when they put the palms of their hands together and bow and say “sawasdee” to you.
There were friendly faces everywhere.
They touched our hearts as a nation.
The one thing I will never forget was being able to do what I wanted, when I wanted, with the person I love the most in the world.
Jane and I bonded like no other time in our 6-year relationship.
We traveled with love and supported each other every step of the way.
Sometimes it was frustrating as hell trying to find out information about the right train or bus.
The language barrier made it impossible to communicate sometimes.
We learnt to laugh it off and keep on asking till we thought we had the right answer.
Waking up without a worry in our minds, on the adventure of your lifetime, with the person you love, is wonderful.
Up until this year, I had woken up every day, thinking about work, bills and how would we manage next month.
That had gone from my life and now we are able to enjoy life.
Now please don’t misunderstand me…
I am not sharing this with you to show off and brag about how wonderful my life is (well maybe a little)…
But rather to show you what is possible in life, if you are willing to try it.
I am now a bitcoin addict…
Bitcoin changed my life.
I hope that by sharing my story of the last year, it has inspired you to look past the negative press of bitcoin.
At least take a serious look at it.
We are bombarded with negative press about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
I have concluded, (and I am not alone in this if you research), they do not want us to get involved.
If we are not involved they can regain control over us.
Before bitcoin, my life was the same as most people…
I worried about bills and money and worked my ass off.
After bitcoin, I am debt-free, stress-free and enjoyed my life.
I know which one I like the most!
Addicted To Bitcoin – In Conclusion…
At the beginning of this story, I woke to the shittiest day of my recent life...
It was a nightmare…
I once watched a movie called the Layer Cake.
Towards the end Kenneth Cranham tells Daniel Craig the following:
“You’re born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you’re up in the rarefied atmosphere and you’ve forgotten what shit even looks like.”
I kinda feel like that right now.
It’s been over a year since that dreadful day when I woke up to hell and I have now I have forgotten what it feels like….
I hope that you can feel like that too soon.
You forget your shit too…
As I started to get involved in bitcoin, I had friends who told me I was crazy to get involved…
I had some call me and threaten me if I got involved and told me how I would end up in prison.
I observed those negative people, didn’t get involved in bitcoin or never ever had any bitcoin.
They didn’t have the faintest idea what they were talking about.
In other-words they were not qualified in any way to make a judgement.
So I spoke to people who involved themselves in bitcoin and I heard lots of good reports.
I decided the only way to test something is with personal experience.
Everything is subjective to your own personal experience.
I decided personal experience beats everything!
So don’t take my word for it – try it!
My life has totally changed because a friend took the time to introduce and explain to me what bitcoin is…
I am always grateful to him.
And I would not be showing my gratitude if I did not share my story with you.
I hope it has inspired you in some way and shown you that not only is bitcoin real, but that you can enjoy it’s bounties too.
Will your story be the same as mine?
I do not know.
Will bitcoin keep going up?
I do not know…
I cannot guarantee you anything at all, but ask yourself if it is worth taking a look…
- Ask yourself, what are your dreams in life?
- How long have you been chasing those dreams?
- How important are your dreams to you?
- And how would you feel if you could actually finally achieve them?
- And if I could help you in any way get those dreams…
- Would it be worth reaching out to me to see if what I did is of any help to you…
- So what the hell should you do now?
By now, you are wondering what your next step is.
How can you become a member of the new movement that is sweeping the world?
I wrote this book to show you what is possible and to inspire you to stretch to greater heights.
Having experienced what we went through I completely understand.
It may be scary for you to make changes in your life.
Andreas Antonopoulos, a bitcoin expert calls us the ‘lunatic fringe’ people.
Your friends also think we a lunatics.
